I have used this stitch for dishcloths many times and really like it. The fabric is firm without being dense, and that allows the cloth to dry a little faster. The stitch forms a kind of scallop on three sides but the foundation chain side remains flat. Because of this, I think the cloth requires some kind of edging. After trying several things, I think this lacy edge is prettiest.

edit: Alice Rowden sent me a great tip for overcoming the flat foundation row. It would eliminate the need for an edging and save time overall. Check it out in the comments! --km
thank you for this quick pattern i have gotten it down to 30 mins if watching tv if visiting people 1 hour the only thing i had to figure out was the hook size i used a g hook and kitchen cotton
ReplyDeleteplanned on making this for my 2 grands but found out on Easter there will another one so boy or girl they will get a box of crocheted stuff from grandma
KATHLEEN, I LOVE THIS STITCH AND HAVE DECIDED MINE SHOULD BE FANCY FACECLOTHS. I DO LIKE IT AS A DISHCLOTH ALSO. I HAVE SOLVED THE FLAT BOTTOM ISSUE, IF YOU HAVE NOT YET. ON ROW 2, I CONTINUE AROUND TO THE BOTTOM WITH THE SAME STITCH INTO THE SAME STITCHES THEN ROW 3 TURN AND WORK BACK AND FORTH FOR THE REST OF THE ROWS.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR PATTERN
Alice Rowden
Thank you so much! This works up quickly and beautifully! Do you have a pattern for a towel topper in this stitch?
ReplyDeleteI just made the dishcloths, Lisa. A towel topper would be cute, but I don't have a pattern worked up for that.
